I am assuming you shut AE and your compouter down already, and restarted, right?.
Set your audio setting back to where they were. Then, try this:
Composition > Preview > Make sure “Audio” is checked.
This is probably not the solution, but it’s worth a shot.

[Clayton Light] “I tried CC Force Motion Blur, but it didn’t seem to work.”
Add an adjustment layer to the top of the comp, and then add force motion blur to that layer. It won’t work the way you are doing it.

Format is going to depend on what you are trying to do. But a safe bet when you are trying to preserve quality is usually Quicktime with Animation Compression.
However it takes up a lot of space and there are other lossless or near lossless codecs that you can use.

animate the Emitter/particle source (the cross hairs). Particles are emitted from the emitter, so where it moves, the particles follow.

It sucks because there are some nice H.264 codecs out there – such as the new Main Concept codec. Hopefully Apple will open this up in the future with software upgrades.

from your post, I’m not even sure that you want depth of field. It sounds like you don’t realize depth of field is on – if I;m wrong, I apologize. But if I’m right, it’s simple to fix.
To turn it off, select your camera and hit “AA” to reveal the camera properties. Then make sure Depth of Field is set to off.

You have to render first.
Composition > Make Movie
Go into the render queue and set it with the proper settings. THen import the quicktime file to PP.

Ha! Sanity, as you say, is relative.
Yeah – Hardest conference I have ever worked – but really good. I got to meet a lot of the AE Community, and of course to see many of the leaders and contributors to the knowledge base of AE (including yourself). All around good stuff.
Continuing your statements… Looking over those “Formats” you can see that they are actually the MP4 or M4V container file formats – using the H.264 codec (and the term “The” is dicey, since there is way more than a single h.264 codec implementation – for example, some play on an ipod, and others don’t.)
