Flash is your best bet, no matter how you spin it.
However QT is the next best.
Any reason you are chosing QT over Flash?

Again – that’swhy I’ve switched to Flash. 98% of all PC’s have Flash. ANd flash updates instantly with no hassle, or wait.
Should point out though that anyone working in animation has (or at least should have) QuitckTime on their computer. Many programs require that it’s installed. AE, for exam,ple yells at you if you install it wiout QT. It still works, but it doesn’t like it.
Windows AVI will never reach near the audience that QT, does, and QT will never reach near the audience that Flash does.

Back then i didn’t know any better. That’s my excuse. All of the new ones are Flash.
Flash is more universal.
AVI’s are bad becasue then many mac users are left in the cold. And I;m not in love with any of the AVI codecs.

2-3 solutions.
Switch the lens flare to one of the other lens flare types in the lens flare effect. there are 3, so choose one of the other’s. I beleive this solves the problem.
There may be a patch for AE 6.5 for the mac for this, BTW. Check the adobe website.
The other solution, is of course, to purchase either AE 7 or Knoll light factory. Or both…
I never though knowing that would ever come in handy again. Wow.

I agree. As long as it looks good, then it doesn’t matter how it’s achieved. But those effect that you point to, while nice for a logo treatment and which look good over black, would not stand up in a real world setting over footage. It’s clearly fractal based, and not fire. The feeling of fire is there, but it in no way looks like real fire.
Look, maybe it’s because I’ve been doing this too long, but I am never forgiving about things like fire or water. Since we see these elements in our every day life, it’s very hard to see a fake looking fire or water effect as anything other than fake.
The very truth of it is, to create realistic fire or water effects, you need to have a source that is based in reality.
In Lord of the Rings, for example, much of the water that floods eisenguard were sprite-based particles (Flat planes) that used rotoscoped video of water splashes. I’ve seen the same done for fire.
THose are the fire effects that look truly real.

Can I ask wht version of AE you are using?
There was a bug in AE 6.5 MAC that caused this behavior when using a lense flare. Haven’t thought a bout it in a while, but we had a nightmare figureing that out back then.

This really requires particle Effects.
If you film the actor on a green screen or create an alpha matte through keying, wondertouch particleIllusion can use the alpha channel as the source for particles – in other words, the shape of your actor can be what genrates the particles.
