    Hi there

I’m working on an animation scene with a few lights in it. Got volumetric lights going, so I’ve attached the flare effect to each of the lights. The flare effect interacts with the Cam position of course, so I think this might be the problem. When I have a Cam rotating around the scene, AE crashes. When I disable the Flare effect, this doesn’t happen. I’ve just disabled the flare effect for the rotating Cam scenes. Don’t notice if you don’t know it. But I was wondering if anyone else might have some experience with this problem?

    Cheers

    > Got volumetric lights going, so I’ve attached the flare effect to each of the lights. < How are you generating the volumetrics effect? That might be what's causing the conflict. But you should be able to make another render pass with just the flare. Copy it to a another layer, use Fan's Xmult or Knoll Unmult, and turn off all other layers. You may, of course, need to make it pass behind some of your foreground elements. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Can I ask wht version of AE you are using?

There was a bug in AE 6.5 MAC that caused this behavior when using a lense flare. Haven’t thought a bout it in a while, but we had a nightmare figureing that out back then.

Yep, I’m on a MAC G5 using AE 6.5. Seems to be the bug that made your life hard back then. Any solutions to the problem?

I guess rendering out the lenseflare layer on it’s own won’t take that long a time. But then again, if I could get everything out the first time around, that would be great.

I made the volumetric lights according to Peter Torpey’s Tutorial using the Beam effect along with a Flare. Works great! Just for the Render crashing when the Cam gets too close to the light or so.

Oh, and great Tutorials, Aharon! Got all I know about AE from you and the COW!

    Cheers,

    2-3 solutions.

Switch the lens flare to one of the other lens flare types in the lens flare effect. there are 3, so choose one of the other’s. I beleive this solves the problem.

There may be a patch for AE 6.5 for the mac for this, BTW. Check the adobe website.

The other solution, is of course, to purchase either AE 7 or Knoll light factory. Or both…

I never though knowing that would ever come in handy again. Wow.

OK. I tried changing the flare type, but it still crashes. I found out though, that when I place the Cam far back and use the Zoom to closen in again, AE doesn’t crash anymore. I guess it had something to do with the Cam turning around the light source itself or something. Anyway, thanks for the help and keep up the good work!

    Cheers
