That’s right. In case you did not read the link I provided above (it’s part of our AE FAQ at the top of the forum), the best way to create easily eidtable (meaning you can change the look and feel) 3D text directly in AE is to use one of the Zaxwerks plug-ins.

Effects area applied after masks. Your 2 options are:
1) Create a solid layer above the particles and add you mask to that layer. The use that layer as a track matte for the particle layer below it.
2) Pre-compose, and then nest it in the main comp. Add the mask to the nested comp.

you can just call their standard complementary installation support number (on the adobe website), but I think the number actually comes up on screen when you run into the installation issue.

Sorry, but that’s the way it is in this line of work sometimes. Sometimes operations keep you from doing more work.
I could be wrong. There may be a solution. I just don’t know it.

With Adobe software, speciffically, it is legal to install on both your laptop and desktop – not to be used at the same time.
Not always the case though. Each company has their own policy. But for adobe it’s OK.
Because of this, You get 2 license activations before you get locked out of installing, and have to call for help/reactivation. I had a computer die, and had already installed on both machines, and I needed to call Adobe. No big deal.

I hate to do this, becasue I only know how to diagnose the issue, but not solve it – this has definately been answered in the forum:
Go into this directory:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects 7.0\Support Files\Plug-ins\Standard\Extensions
ANd TEMPORARILY move the OpenGL plugin to your desktop or somewhere outside that folder.
then try starting it up again.
If it starts up there is an openGL issue, or the plug in has become corrupt. If not, it’s not that plug in or your video card. Copuld be as simple as updating your video card driver.
Sorry I can’t be more help. But search – there definitely is a solution.
It may be as simple as trashing your preferences (do a search here for more info). Preferences can be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe\After Effects\7.0

You can import 1 AEP into another. So, go to File > Import > File, and one of the options is AE Project. Just select it and click open and it will come in in it’s own folder.
