AE auto-trace stops when switching apps
Hello all,
My first post here, though I have been lurking around for some time now, absorbing as much as I have the time for or inclination. This is an amazing resource.
Anyway, I’m doing some keying and part of my workflow involves a quick and dirty initial key and then auto-tracing the alpha of my subject to a new matte layer, connecting the source footage to the matte, and then applying a simple choker to expand the matte to about 25-30 px around the subjects.
Basically, I’m just knocking out all the green screen with a matte and leaving a small strip of green around the edges left over for keying in keylight. I don’t have to be as aggressive with the keying with this technique. (Many thanks Andrew Kramer!)
The problem I’m having is that while AE is auto-tracing, I can’t do any other work on my machine. If I switch to another program or even the finder, auto-tracing stops and AE says “Auto-trace interrupted.”
The clips I’m working with are anywhere from 3-8 minutes long and can take anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours to auto-trace. Maybe I’m just asking for something that isn’t possible, but it would be nice if, like when rendering, I could be working in Final Cut or Photoshop while this process happens.
Anyone have any ideas?
