correction. It looks like it’s 864×480. I looked it up and it’s supposed to be the number I gave previously, but what I’m actually seeing is that it’s 864×480. Can anyone confirm or deny?

    OK. Here’s the deal.

Since particleIllusion works only in square pixels, you must find out the Sqaure pixel equivilent of your non square footage, comp, or project, so that when you drop your pilluisoin footage in there, it fits properly.

I guess the question of the day is are you working in NTSC or PAL.

    For 16:9 NTSC the square pixel equivilent of 720 x 480 (1.2) is 856 x 480.

Set up your pillusion projects at that resolution, and depending on what program you are dropping your rendered pilluison footage into it will either correct for the un-matching PAR (as After Effects does), or you will have to do it manually.

If you want to use widescreen BG footage in pillusion, then you need to export the video from your NLE (Non-Linear Editor) in square pixels – at the same resolution I mention – 856×480. Otherwise, pillusion will think that the footage is actually 720×480 in SQUARE PIXLES, which it;s not – everything will then be squished.

    Make sense?

Hi Everyone – I will figure this out, later today. I have a method of figuring out how the square pixel equivilent of a non-square comp. I have to go to the hospital for my dad this morning, but hopefully be back later today.

Fear not, this shouldn;t be a big deal, and probably isn;t – it just takes a little figuring out. Once you know, though, it’s no big deal.

  • Hi John-

That’s what I like to hear!!! Glad you liked it. Really glad it helped you impress your boss.

Regarding the reviews you mentioned: Can you point me to them? I searched the forum, and this is the only string for the most part that talks about my DVD – I haven’t seen anything like the stuff you mentioned, and if I’ve been reviewed, I’d love to read it.

    Thanks.

Kim Cuttle’s emitter library index, list every emitter from every emitter library – it’s erxtremeley helpful. It’s and MS excel file that index all emitter libraries.

The help files that come with pillusion are in tutorial format – they are by far the best way to learn the ins and outs of the program.

April 28, 2005 at 2:37 am in reply to: AVI request format error??? How u fix?

You are porbably using a video Codec that pIllusion doesn’t understand. Try using a different compression codec for your video – Maybe Microsoft Video? An AVI can use any number of codecs, so you need to know what it is. Also, if it’s something coming from a device, like a digital camera, and that’s the only video foprmat it can output, you can download Bink and Smacker (a free program) which allow you to convert video:

    https://www.radgametools.com/

I’m not sure what people around here use. I usually use uncompressed video, and image sequence, or Cinepack Codec (for previewing, not my final video).

Anyone here have a preference for BG AVI video compression?

    For Text:

you need to create an image of your text in a program like Photoshop.

Just make sure it the size of the image is in multiples of 16 – i.e. 128×256, 32×256 (or any variation).

Make the letters white, and the BG black, and save as a Tiff or TGA.

Then in the emitter properties go to the Change shape tab and then import the image (via one of the “Import Image…” buttons).

For more on this, just check out the pIllusion help files: Tutorial 3: “Particle Shapes”

    Regarding BG footage:

Check out this Tutorial. it will explain how to use BG footage. Only thing to remember is that in the tutorial it’s a still image, but otherwise it works almost exactly the same:

I never output compressed from pIllusion, but a lot of people like to use DivX becasue it looks pretty good.

The downside is that many people don’t have divx codec on their computer so they may not be able to play it.

Also, you need to DL the DivX codec to output as DivX – https://www.divx.com
