Hi site is running a little slow at trhe moment, but Dan Ebberts has a tutorial on creating Lensflares in 3D, by using expressions to attach the flare to a light:

Also, trapcode has a plugin called Lux which creates certain volumetric effects with lights.

yes it’s in AE7 as well. But be aware it is not something to use lightly – there’s a reason it hidden. Purging can cause a very significant slowdown in rendering if you are using any time based effect, or if you are using any effect or feature that needs to draw on previous frames to work – for example frame blanding or motion blur.

Every time you flush the memory, AE has to recalculate those frames.

I have my purge set to 30 frames, and I find that hasn’t let me down yet.

TRhere’s never anything simple about a multimedia file. There are always many factors, or as Alan Lorence at the particleIllusion forum like to say “Flavors” of certain file formats.

Make sure it’s not using any special codec on Export. Also what is the sample rate? I’ve found that AE sometimes won’t let me bring in 48000Khz – Try 44100Khz.

Also – have you shut down and restarted your computer? I knwo that;s basaic, but that has helped me with stuff like this in the past.

Start it in 6.5, aqnd when 7.0 arrives, move it over to 7. there should be no issues with that.

That depends on what you mean. If you want the letters to break up into little pieces, you’ll need to have a picture of your text and then follow either of the 2 tutorials found here under Elvis’ Bio:

If you mean you want to have each individual letter fly off, that would require a lot of work – in which each letter would have to be it’s own emitter, as a single particle – and you;d need to swap the original emitter out with all of these, and then animate them. You are much better off doing something like this in after Effects or another compositing program.

if you can;t get these AVI’s to play on any macbhine you have, it’s got to be a codec issue, or a problem with the machine that originally captured it. It’s not a mac thing.
