plus you may want to play with it’s weight over life property, so that it has no weight at first, and then gets heavier and floats up a little later. Not being a smoker, I can’t say that this is exactly realistic, but I think it is – first, as smoke is breathed out it shoots out, and then it disipates as it rises.

I’m hoping to. A lot depends on sales, but that’s my goal.

Thanks for your interest. Good luck with everything!

In Alan’s approach, you need to raise the velocity value, and lower the emission range values to something like 20. This makes the flames shoot out of one direction

If you want more flames, increase the number property value.

If it’s going in the wrong direction, play with the emission angle value.

Yes. In AE You need to select the mask, and then the point you want to be the beginning and choose Layer > Mask > Set first Vertex point. (also Right clicking on the point will bring up the same option).

This sets the first point of the mask, which should solve your problem.

duh- I always assume the easy stuff’s been tried and go straight for the complicated solutions.

    Sorry about that.

It depends on what your doing – if he’s just staying in the middle, and it’s falling behind him, for this emitter, it’s a simple matter of just setting the particle type’s (called cloud) weight to a positive number. Right now it’s set to negative, which makes the flames go up instead of down.

On the other hand, if there’s a lot of motion, and your character changes direction, then you need to do a mix of animating the layer’s offset property, in the direction the background appears to be moving (which moves everything in the layer, including your emitter, without creating the drag effect), and next move the emitter back to it’s original position on the screen. So basically, it’s like the equivilent of gettin on an escalatior backwards and wailking in place. The floor, which would be like your particles, continue to move behind you, while you (the emitter) stay still.

    Make sense?

  • before doing anything rash, try bringing a wave from another computer over to AE on your main computer. If that works then the wave files you are making are the problem, not AE. Then follow up on that.

In the interim you could always convert to another format, such as making the audio file an MOV (if you have quicktime pro).

February 1, 2006 at 3:18 pm in reply to: pillusion AE plug-in

It is my understanding from previous posts here in the forum that there will be advantages to using both apps, and that there will be a competitive upgrade price for those who laready own pIllusion.

Having spoken to other plug-in makers, AE’s architecture limits plug-ins in certain ways when compared to their original host apps – things like Open GL tend to get hit a bit hard becasue both AE and 3D plug-in (or open GL plugin as pIllusion will be) can run slower. Also, AE has limitations on how many parameters/properties something can have, an issue that pIllusion doesn’t have. Just take alook at super emitters and see how many properties are there.

On the other hand, the advantage of workin in AE is pretty big, so there are times where there’ll be no substitute for that.

All that said, Since the plug-in isn’t out and there’s no set release date, you are better off going for it. pIllusion is one of my top 2 programs (AE being the other) and it gets the job done fast – The 2 programs (AE and pI) work well together.

    Take it easy,

    Aharon

February 1, 2006 at 3:05 pm in reply to: How do you get 3d floating lights

Hi site is running a little slow at trhe moment, but Dan Ebberts has a tutorial on creating Lensflares in 3D, by using expressions to attach the flare to a light:

    https://www.motionscript.com/mastering-expressions/lst-lens-flare.html

Also, trapcode has a plugin called Lux which creates certain volumetric effects with lights.
