I have an x2 4400 and similar specs in my workstation and I work with 1920×1080 uncompressed footage all day… most of my source footage is 3072×2048… The preview delays you describe are normal for me as well, and I dont think I have ever been able to scrub non-cached 1080 comps…. I don’t think its a matter of codecs, it just takes a lot of power to push around so many pixels… An 8 processor Opteron system with 16gb of Ram will certainly be much quicker but it will also drain your wallet very quickly… I just got used to the delays… I do most RAM previews at one half or one quarter res with the preview window matching the res percentage…. Its not so bad once you get used to it…

  • With problematic renders I sometimes need to set the secret prefs to purge every 1 frame… All my material is in 1920×1080 as well… And sometimes I’ve found some frames just seem to be cursed so I just render around them or try to isolate the prblematic plugin or layer.

I”In PPro 2.0, is there a way to make offline versions of HD clips after capturing, or after importing the HD files into a project?”

I would like to know the answer to this as well…. Does anybody know? Final Cut Pro has been able to do the offline/uprez/reconnect media trick for awhile… I hope this new premiere pro can do the same…

  • “the ability to simply do a recapture based on a Sequence allowing users to “Uprez” their footage quickly and easily”

So can Premiere Pro 2.0 do this now? I know it wasn’t possible with 1.5 but I’m hoping 2.0 can do it…. Also does anyone know where I can find screenshots or more info on the new Media Manager? I can’t seem to find much….Thanks

Heres an idea but it requires adobe premiere pro… Export an edl from FCP… move the media over to the PC…open the EDL then save the project as a premiere project and open it in After Effects…when you go PRemiere Pro 1.5 to AE everything comes over…its great…

  • Thanks for the quick reply… Hmmm…. so there is no way it is possible? How about exporting an edl or aaf file from the low res project then creating a new full res project and importing the edl or aaf? Would that work? I dont know I’m just desperate because I’m a milimeter from the perfect workflow… I dont want to leave Premiere because of its great integration with AE… but if I don’t I’ll have to buy a high speed disk array to edit the uncompressed footage….
