  • Editing with halfres footage then recapturing at full res???

I know its possible with final cut pro but so far I havent been able to figure out how to do this in Premiere Pro 1.5 since after I’ve made a project it wont let me tinker with the current settings… So this is what I want to do…. I’m working on an animated film.. the clips are 1920×1080 24p 10bit uncompressed, I’m using the free black magic codec… I dont have fast enough storage to edit 10bit uncompressed so I want to edit 1/3 res versions of the clips using the jpeg codec in Premiere… then when I am finished I want to replace the 1/3 res clips with the full res versions… Is this possible in Premiere Pro 1.5? I’m not set on the codecs but I just need to know how to relink the full res files…. Many thanks in advance…

At the moment, this is not possible in Premiere Pro.

Thanks for the quick reply… Hmmm…. so there is no way it is possible? How about exporting an edl or aaf file from the low res project then creating a new full res project and importing the edl or aaf? Would that work? I dont know I’m just desperate because I’m a milimeter from the perfect workflow… I dont want to leave Premiere because of its great integration with AE… but if I don’t I’ll have to buy a high speed disk array to edit the uncompressed footage….

The problem is getting the media into PPro at that lower res…unless there’s a mode and project settings available with the Decklink card.

Ppro will edit just about anything with some custom project settings…the rub is getting timecode into the system with the low res media. It has to be captured by PPro to do it. You can’t convert the media outside PPro and edit it and still have a useful EDL…

It’s one area where FCP has a leg up at the moment. I would think you could edit with DV, couldn’t you? That could be captured with TC and then you’d have a useful offline.
