Either that, or more likely, the audio is multiplexed. In other words, it doesn’t exist in a discrete audio track in the video file. You can use a demuxer application (tons of free ones on the web, such as MPEG Streamclip) to demux the audio and export it as a separate audio file.

To take maximum advantage of multiprocessing in AE, make sure you get at least 2 GB for each core in your machine. So, for an octo-core machine you’d have to consider getting 16 GB of RAM. Otherwise you may need to tell AE to use fewer cores for rendering.

Yes, we’re aware of an issue when decoding AVCHD files from specific cameras in which you can get shuffled/out of order frames. Sorry for the inconvenience.
For now, try converting to a Quicktime or AVI file before importing to AE (search for AVCHD software converters, there are lots of these).

Jeff: I really would like to help you, but it’s all so broad 🙁
Some third party codecs have dedicated installers (they would appear in Add/remove programs), others are installed as part of codec packages or even other applications. Impossible to tell, and we don’t even know if this is really your problem.
Did it work fine until recently?

What kind of problems, Emrah? Please try to be more specific.

Without an error message it’s very difficult to think of anything.
MediaCore is the import/format handling library. You could check third party codecs, for example.

    Control/Alt/Shift doesn’t clear preferences.
Go to Username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/8.0 and rename the “Adobe After Effects 9.0 Prefs” file to something like “Adobe After Effects 9.0 Prefs.old”. AE will generate fresh preferences the next time you launch it.

    I don’t see a mystery here.
If it shows full range on any one display, it’s not clipped. That’s all there is to it. Everything else is related to internal settings and characteristics of each playback or display device. FWIW, a typical projector has a much lower range than most displays.

The Stroke layer style is anti-aliased.
Is it possible that you have a non-square pixel Comp and that the PAR correction button is enabled? When you do that, After Effects uses a draft-like filtering option for Comp previews.

[Marc Brown] “Just to round out the data, I went ahead and re-generated the test chart video, this time turning color space on and setting it to “HDTV (Rec. 709) 16-235″.”

This would be a mistake, Marc.
The 16-235 SDTV and HDTV flavors are meant to be used as output profiles, not as working space for the project (note that the profiles meant to be used as working space are grouped together and offered at the top of the list). You don’t want to clip the color space in which After Effects renders images. You may want to limit the output.
So, if you want to test this, pick the non-limited HDTV REC.709 profile as the project working space, and then assign the HDTV REC.709 16-235 profile in the CM section of the Output Module (Render Queue). I am not recommending this workflow, just stating what would be the right way to achieve what you wanted to test.
