I have Adobe Master Suite CS3 and all of the programs work great, except After Effects. When I first start, the “initializing media core” stays for about 4 minutes and then loads the rest of the items. The workspace finally appears and, after about 30 seconds, the whole thing just freezes. I never get an error message, I just have to shut it down with CNTRL/ALT/DEL.

I’ve already tried CNTRL/ALT/SHIFT to clear prefs and it didn’t help.

There are no third party plugins – this is brand new – updated to current version.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

    Control/Alt/Shift doesn’t clear preferences.
Go to Username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/8.0 and rename the “Adobe After Effects 9.0 Prefs” file to something like “Adobe After Effects 9.0 Prefs.old”. AE will generate fresh preferences the next time you launch it.

That didn’t work either. All of the symptoms still exist and it still freezes after it gets to the workspace. Any other ideas?

Without an error message it’s very difficult to think of anything.
MediaCore is the import/format handling library. You could check third party codecs, for example.

where would I go to find codecs and delete them?

Jeff: I really would like to help you, but it’s all so broad 🙁
Some third party codecs have dedicated installers (they would appear in Add/remove programs), others are installed as part of codec packages or even other applications. Impossible to tell, and we don’t even know if this is really your problem.
Did it work fine until recently?

It’s never worked. It’s brand new and it didn’t work, so I updated it and it still doesn’t work.
