So if you’ve never seen a crash on quit with 9.0.2 can I send it to you the next time I get it?
Please by all means do so. In fact, I do read a bunch of the crash reports sent by users. Please include contact info and configuration details in the next one.
I never said that I never saw a crash on quit on 9.02. Just that the behavior in which all CS4 application report a crash on exit is related to a rare problem with the Crash Reporter itself, and that I personally only heard from cases related to prerelease software. Evidently, it seems that may not be always the case. If the app shows the same workspace you had before the crash the next time you launch it, that would point to the problem I mentioned. If it doesn’t, then it would be a sign it crashed, indeed.

The crash on quit for all CS4 applications is not really a crash. It’s a very rare case in which the Adobe Crash Reporter thinks the application crashed. For AE, this problem was fixed in 9.02. All cases I’ve seen are from people who had prerelease versions of CS4 applications in their machine. Again, at least for AE it should be fixed in 9.02.

I meant a Quicktime file with PNG encoding, not a numbered PNG still sequence.
Quicktime PNG is a very efficient form of lossless encoding.Adolfo Rozenfeld · Adobe

Yes, FCP re-wraps the native XDCAM file to a Quicktime file with a proprietary version of the XDCAM codec (MPEG-2), which is installed by Final Cut Studio. If you don’t have FCS installed in the other machine, it won’t work. Some people report copying the codecs from one machine to the other, but I don’t think that’s allowed by the FCS license agreement.
In any case, using MPEG-2 compression to produce interchange files between applications may not be the best idea. You could use Quicktime PNG or Animation files exported from FCP and they will work well and are completely lossless.

2D layers are not the only thing that can break the 3D compositing hierarchy.
Once more, please check the AE help page posted above for a full list.Adolfo Rozenfeld · Adobe

Note that everyone in this thread said that this is the expected behavior, and it’s perfectly documented in the manual. It’s not a flaw or a bug. Do you know any 3D program with adjustment layers, for example? There are some tools which have 2D compositing logic in their very nature.Adolfo Rozenfeld · Adobe

If you have an octo-core Mac Pro, and you have “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” turned on, then 12 GB is not enough to feed all cores. You need at least 2 GB per core. What you can do is turn off “Render Multiple…” and see if it goes through. In CS4, you can set a number of cores to be left aside, so AE doesn’t launch rendering instances for them in case you don’t have enough RAM for all cores. In CS3, this can only be done by changing a setting in the After Effects, as explained in this document:
https://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402403Set it to 4 and see if it goes through (again, I am assuming you have “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” turned on).

August 20, 2009 at 4:32 pm in reply to: Ram Previews Band When I Linearize My WorkspaceJoe: Banding in the computer display is not unusual, because -come think of it-, no matter the project color depth, computer monitors are still 8 bpc. Many displays are in fact 6 bpc only, with interpolation techniques to disguise this.
The odd thing is that you only see it during RAM previews.
I am able to see some subtle banding in the example you mention, only if “Use display management” is enabled. It’s probably related to the real time color transform to the display color space occurring during RAM preview playback.Adolfo Rozenfeld · Adobe

Have you tried importing the files without installing any codecs?
The BMD codecs are 2vuy/uvuy codecs, and I understand AE CS4 should be able to handle them directly.
I haven’t tested this myself, though. Please try it and let me know.Adolfo Rozenfeld · Adobe
