With Mograph, I would take your base object, select all polys, and run the functions>disconnect command with “preserve groups” unchecked. Then create a MoGraph Fracture Object and make your basic object it’s child. Change the fracture’s mode to “explode segments”.
Now you can assign effectors to the fracture object and they will affect the individual polys of your base object. So you create multiple spline effectors and animate their strengths in sequence to cause your exploded object to travel from one spline to the next. (do the explosion itself with an animated random effector).
The downside is that the fracture object can be very memory intensive if it has to deal with lots of polygons. Worth a try anyway.
