There are also quite a few excellent MoGraph tutorials here at the Cow which will give you a very good idea what the module can do: https://leaders.creativecow.net/product/19

It’s possible that you changed something in the view>config menu. I’d go through all the tabs there and make sure everything is in order.

Sounds like you have the right idea. Get a pic or drawing of the flattened box and build it with polys/snapping. You can then fold it by using the modeling axis to select the relevant edges, switching the axis to free mode, then selecting the polys and rotating into space — pivoting around the edge.

I would model it without thickness and then extrude all polys with caps to add thickness later. That’ll make the modeling job much quicker/easier.

My guess is that you need to change the spline’s “intermediate points” method from “none” to something else, such as “natural,” “adaptive,” or “subdivided.” The latter will give you the smoothest results, but at the expense of more polygons.

You can break up the spline with Function>Explode Segments, then group them by word and connect again. Or, you could animate the words by animating the spline points, but that would be a bit of a PITA.

You can restrict materials to extrude objects’ caps and roundings by typing (respectively) C1, C2, R1, or R2 into a material tag’s restriction box.

You can have reflection fade over distance by using ambient occlusion in the reflection channel.

The Sky object uses an infinite light to represent the sun….

It looks to me like the “rake” is an infinite light, and you seem to have aligned both the camera and the light to a spline. The light should have no impact on your viewport navigation, but the “align to spline” tag on the camera certainly could.

    Excellent choice!
