I brought in an illustrator type outline to extrude. It’s a 3 word movie title stacked vertically.

    Done this so far:
    Function > connect
    Extrude

Looks great, but now I want to texture, animate etc… each word.
How do I select one word to animate it?
How do select just the faces to color them?

Do I have to go back to square one an import each word separately?
Can’t I duplicate 3 times and delete what I don’t need as this would be better work flow?

You can break up the spline with Function>Explode Segments, then group them by word and connect again. Or, you could animate the words by animating the spline points, but that would be a bit of a PITA.

You can restrict materials to extrude objects’ caps and roundings by typing (respectively) C1, C2, R1, or R2 into a material tag’s restriction box.
