[sozoavg] “Is there no way to bring in my 3D text to AE and it still have the 3D attributes to it in AE from C4D?? I now can get a flattened image of it but its not 3D, no depth.”

No, you can bring in 3D layers, cameras, lights, motion data, and depth passes, but not actual 3D objects. For that you would need one of the Invigorator AE plugins.

You have to render/save the actual frames in Cinema in order for them to be available in AE, i.e., if you just press the “save” compositing file, there won’t be any footage for AE to import.

You’re confusing two different things: the straight output from Cinema (what Brian was describing) and Cinema’s compositing output, which requires a plugin.

Compositing output would be overkill if you just want to produce a movie file with an alpha channel. But if you want to use the compositing output (i.e., the .aec file) you have to install the AE plugin that comes with Cinema. You’ll find it in your Maxon\Exchange Plugins folder.

Another trick is to use the ExplosionFX deformer’s Cluster/Thickness property (while turning off the exposion itself, of course).

No, it’s only available in .html these days. I believe Maxon said it would just be too time consuming to produce it in both formats.

Since r10 there is also a “global brightness” setting in Render>Options which controls the brightness of all lights.

    Unfortunately it’s not possible.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood your question. I think the best way to address your issue would be to use x/y/z constraints instead of the axis. At the top-left of the interface you’ll see the xyz icons with a cube/globe toggle icon to the right which turn on/off different axes and toggle between world and object restrictions.

For example, if you’re zoomed in super close and want to move a point only in X, but you can’t see the axis, toggle off the y and z icons. Now when you drag the point it’s motion will be limited to the x axis. Toggle the world/object coordinates icon depending on whether you want to move the point along World X or the object’s X.

[Brian Jones] “check out the “Wide angle spherical distortion…” thread just down the page”

In addition to what was mentioned there, you can also model a wideangle lens, give it a transparent material with a refractive index of 1.5-1.6, and render the scene looking through the lens. You’ll have to use Best AA because the transparent material kills Object AA.

If you’ve upgraded to 10.5 there are some great new camera pivot features that allow you to place the pivot near the closest point with the touch of a hotkey, or even automatically.

If you’re using an earlier version there’s an option to pivot around a chosen object, such as a null, which you can move around at your convenience.
