These presets are for shaders, certain mograph effectors, and other aspects of Cinema that have spline GUI elements. For example, if you create a mograph step effector you’ll see a spline graph in the effector properties. If you click the arrow to the left of the graph it will open more properties, one of which is “load preset”. If you click on that button you should get thumbnails showing the preset spline shapes.

Think of it this way: the color channel represents the diffuse color of the object (Cinema’s diffuse channel is something else). The brightness of the color is affected by lights. The luminance channel, OTOH, applies color to your object that is NOT affected by lights. It also generates light if you are using global illumination.

So if you have both color and luminance they’re going to blend together and the luminance is going to predominate because it’s at full strength regardless of scene lighting.

What is it that you’re trying to achieve?

Sure it’s possible. There are separate color and luminance channels in the C4D material. You can also adjust how they blend together.

  • Thanks for that, Kevin. It’s a trick that I figured out awhile back but that had slipped out of my leaky head somewhere along the way.

You can do it in Cinema using the Filter shader, which contains a hue adjustment slider. Another option would be to use the colorizer shader which allows you to remap colors.

Doesn’t look jagged to me, but you are correct in thinking that AA settings would be the way to fix it. Are you sure you’re viewing the render at 100%?

To be honest I didn’t even know about it until about six months ago … and I’ve been using Cinema since R6. The name Timewarp doesn’t help. If it was something more literal, like scrub timeline, it would be easier to find in the command manager.

Yeah, it sucks that you have to use the J key in Cinema instead of the K key as in Maya. 😉

Well, you can reassign it (it’s called Timewarp) to K if you want.

The quickest way to fix it would be to place the animated objects in a null and then offset the null so that the animation takes place where you want it.

For individual objects you can use the animation tool to move/scale/rotate an object with its animation path.

Hard to say without having the model to look at. Possible problems are reversed normals, disconnected points, or possibly some other defect like double faces. What I would do is delete those polygons and replace them with new ones using the bridge tool or the “close polygon hole” tool.
