it’s unlikely to be an issue if only PPT slides, but remember there is a limit to how large all your menus can be, in total.

someone else can no doubt tell you the exact figure, but IIRC it’s something like 100MB or 1GB…..

agreed that the transitions etc built into DVDSP on the mac are pretty cool. Wish DVDA had similar, without having to create transition as video files to bring in

    🙁

  • I’ve been using the trimmer a lot on a docu recently, with loads of studio talking heads discussing events occuring on location. I set the I/O points for a clip, set it as a Region (or sometimes just use a Marker), save it and use A to get it on the timeline.

the advantage of this is the clips have their region/marker content visible within the clip, separate from any regions / markers inserted on the timeline. Makes it much easier to identify a clip, esp when the video is often so similar.
Then I can always go back to original clip in trimmer by right clicking it and opening trimmer, to find exact location specified by (eg) a region, within its context, if I need to check content.

AE is a top drawer compositing tool
vegas is a capable compositing tool (better than any other NLE), with 3D, blending modes etc

depends what you’re trying to achieve.

AE plugins do not work in Vegas

sorted. installed PowerDVD and all is fine. Didn’t think that was necessary, since other mpegs were playing fine.

    1) don’t make them too large

if you intend to pan / crop / track motion, usually people go for double res, eg 1440 x 1152 (in PAL) or similar. Use a free app like irfanview to batch process them to such res if you don’t already have a suitable app.

    2) use Reduce Interlace Flicker in DVDA

create the light sabre either in photoshop, on a transparent background, or in vegas as a blue solid, again with transparent background. I just did the latter recently, and it worked a treat. There are better ways of course, in a program like after effects, but vegas served the purpose.

can send you a veg file if you need – mail aht fuddam dawt com
    🙂

also, learn to MASK. check it out in the manual. creating bezier masks in your crop and pan will also allow you to cut out that sun reasonably well, without having to drop the opacity of your top layer.

drive choice is pretty difficult, ie what works for one doesn’t work for another
eg my WD have never failed, but bad experience with Hitachi / IBM a while back
Some maxtors have a bad rep (eg series 9 IIRC) but the 10s are supposed to be good

FWIW, my current drives of choice are Samsung. Good, reliable, quiet. I like.

sata I vs sata II is virtually a non-issue. Lot of hullabaloo but doesn’t make much real world diffs.

Personally, I prefer a C: of about 40-80GB. I don’t like too much stuff on C – used to make do with about 20GB but now a bit bigger, esp for catalog files for my digital juice stuff + google desktop indexes etc.

Am busy building machine for self with E6600, 2GB, Asus P5B-E Plus and using a 160GB for system: 40 for C, about 100 for D (data) and small chunk for E (page file etc)

some people having good times with Vista, FWIW.

  • i worked out how to toggle Active Take Name, which brings back the region names, but still don’t have the original regions in the trimmer
    🙁
