  • Everest – Your answer actually suits a puzzle I’m currently solving with master and proxy footage in ProRes HQ.

Following the thread of your description, would the proxy files need to be ProRes LT, or should they be in ProRes HQ, and changed later in the sequence compressor from LT to HQ when I’m ready to convert over to the master files? I’ll need to switch from proxy to master because the proxy will have burned in subs that I’ll need for the edit, which won’t be present in the master files.

Also, Once I’m ready to switch to the master files would I simply “reconnect media” for the whole project and point to the master files, or is there an another way to do that through media manager?

    Thanks

Thanks Jaap. I’m going to consider this a closed case. For whatever reason I’m getting conflicting responses to this questions and the bottom line is I’m not able to pull up word searches using cmd+f in the browser with just the markers.

I’ve tried dumping the preferences, suggested on the apple website, but that didn’t resolve anything either. If there is a way to do this I’m lost. I’d love for there to an easy solution since I’ve done a lot of work already, but I should have double-checked the information I was given before committing to this work-flow.

Unless there’s another solution I’ll have to convert my markers to sub-clips and paste the info from there.

    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi Larry-

Alright. Well a little confusing, but that sounds like the best answer I’m going to get. I’ve read different threads throughout the forum including Jaap’s reply here, that indicate some people have been able to search markers in the browser while others have not. Since I can’t do I have to assume it currently can’t be done.

Sounds like the only work around would be to export all the meta data in the markers to a 3rd party app, or cut and paste all the info manually into sub-clips.

    Hi Jaap –

I’m using standard markers and the results are consistently the same for me. Are you using any specific method to perform your search other then what I’ve described? I’ve highlighted the root folder as well as individual bins, do a find all, and it will only pull up the search word from the Master clip.

Any other thoughts, input, experiences with this would be appreciated.

I did try reinstalling both with the install disks as well as peripheral software like Pacifist and Compressor Repair. I’ve read a few posts that suggest this happens when upgrading from Tiger to Leopard and believe this could ultimately be the issue. I don’t want to unassemble my entire system to find out though.

For those who may be looking for similar solutions, this link might be helpful.

Hi Jason. Thanks for your reply. If you read my post again you’ll see that I’ve already tried the solution for opening the qmaster folder, trashing, then deleting it. Regardless, I did it again following the exact directions in the link, but no luck.

It might be important to mention that I have no problem stopping and deleting the job in the queue. Once done, I can see that no jobs appear to be queued anymore. Despite that, every time I submit a job I still have the same problem. It’s showing an elapsed time, but nothing is processing.

    Hi David,

I didn’t see your response before reposting today by mistake. Hopefully it doesn’t show again. To follow up on your comment I’m currently working on a G4 with maxed RAM, a 1.42 processor, upgraded graphics card, and FCS 1. I don’t have SATA on my computer, but I think most come with firewire options as well. If I understand your comment on bare drives I’d prefer to by with the enclosure included, since the drive is for someone I’m working with that will walk with the project once completed. Hope that makes sense.

Are there specific models you like working with in any of the brands you’ve suggested? I use a Seagate Freeagent, but have been told it’s not exactly built for video editing. I’ve also worked with WD and have found the one I used to be pretty noisy.

    Thanks

    Hey Shane,

That worked great! Actually f10 on my keyboard activates an expose function instead of what it was supposed to do in FCP, but just the ability to open the the clip with the in and outs in place was a great help. I just dropped it back into the timeline with no problem.

Cool. Great feedback from all. Think I have a better handle on what to charge. Thanks!
