I too agree that MM is the soft, weak underbelly of FCP – and that it has very many problems – and that getting it to work right is like spinning plates on broom sticks…
But that being said… I regularly uprez 60 minute shows from offline DV to uncompressed 8bit, without having to capture unused media. And, I am sure that I’m not talented enough to be special here.
The key may be that I create a new online project rather than try to trim media within the original offline project.
I dont know??… Check this out…

I’m a dork… who should have noticed that. It works fine after the upgrade.

I have tried to output to the boot drive as well, with the same failed results.

Bret, you may be right. And I’m certainly not above reinstalling my OS, but probably not while I have two nearly finished feature length docs on the box – so I was hoping to find a solution.
My specs are listed above. Media is on a 4way striped RAID 0. Both the RAID and the boot disk have pleanty of headroom.
I have completed several FCP to DVDSP projects previously with no problems, but not since upgrading to Studio 5.
And just to prove that I am not alone in this problem…

January 25, 2006 at 8:51 pm in reply to: REAL DETAILED INFO for anyone up to the CHALLENGE OF SAVING THE DAY!~ (in regards to compatible/appropriate sequence settings)We had problems in the past exactly like the ones you describe. Does it look like the fields are reversed? – Does the image tear horizontally in clips displaying high motion?
If so… Instead of exporting with quicktime conversion directly out of FCP… just add one more step…
Export a refrence movie out of FCP with “Current Settings”. Quit FCP drag regrence movie to compressor and encode to Mpeg2. Using this method, compressor seems to get the field order correct. It seems to be an issue of uncompressed 8-bit footage being 720×486 and DVD’s being 720×480.
I bet this works.
Do I win the prize for solving the puzzle?

Thanks again guys.
I had a feeling that this wasnt going to be straightforward.
Cheers,

Thanks so much for the help.
Acutally, I was intending to remain in OS9 and only upgrade the box to something with a faster processor.
So my question is this: Can I reinstall MC8 on a G4 dual 1.4, for example? Or does the dual processor or new mother board cause problems with AVID?

Hi,
The clip format shows the old capture format until the clip is actually recaptured.
Despite all odds, and despite the naysayers, I have up rezed many shows and a feature film using the MM in FCP without any problem. Well, I guess I originally had a few problems, but now that I have learned all the tricks everything is fine.
All the necessary tricks, like making clips independant and copying to a dummy sequence, are explained in a good, archived tutorial at lafcpug.org
