January 20, 2012 at 6:20 pm in reply to: New Independent Marketing Executive Program for VideographersScott Sheriff succinctly identifies the key issue at hand (although I’m not sure the math is correct)…
“…lets say all went really well, and after it was all said and done the net profit (20%) was 1,200 dollars. Your cut would be $120.”
A $6000 job does not yield $6000 profit. By taking 20% of the total budget, you are asking for a cut of what I pay my vendors (grip rental, PA’s, etc), which in most cases are long standing relationships that I spent a lot of time cultivating before you came along. It’s not atypical for me to have paid them out of my own pocket in the past regardless of the profitability or cash flow of the particular job they worked on, just to preserve that relationship.
There is definitely value in someone who can deliver sales, but in this business it has to be a two way street. The sales person’s fortune has to rise and fall with the profitability of each job.

People are often surprised that making flashy motion graphics is actually a painstakingly slow process.

I know this is an old post. Hopefully my question will move this back to the top of the forum.
In determining whether to buy ProAnimator or Invigorator, I read Andrew Devis’ post on the difference between the two, which says:
“Invigorator output is animated with keyframes in the normal way you animate inside AE and so can be quite a prolonged process. ProAnimator has a built-in animation engine that makes animation more natural and much quicker and easier.
My question is… can the “presets” inside ProAnimator be completely tweaked to create entirely custom animations? Or are your animations limited by whatever is preloaded in the animation engine?
I watched one of Andrew’s tutorial where, after designing the Zax text, he simply cycled through animation presets to get the look he wanted. I can never imagine working like that myself. Every motion graphic that I’ve ever made is completely custom. To me, cycling through presets is not “more natural” although it does seem “much quicker and easier.”
I am leaning towards Invigorator, but wanted to ask for opinions.
Thank you.

Why not just buy a dolly for that price?

We create Chinese versions of our Motion Graphics all the time. A few things we’ve learned… Copy and pasting does work, but copy from a pdf document rather than a word doc. Secondly, you will need to change the font in your After Effects text layer to one that displays Chinese characters. There are a few options for that font. If you don’t change the font in AFX you will see some of the characters, but not all of them. This can easily trick you into thinking that the text is accurate, when it is actually not – especially if you don’t speak Chinese.

Thank you. It was the Live Update Switch.

You might also try just color correcting to massively desaturate the problem area. That could hide the problem since the bleachers are grey anyway.
