I keep hearing this “1980’s tape users” concept, which bothers me.

Every pro shop where I have worked delivers tape as a master output to the Network in 2011… from SPEED channel programing to American Idol… all delivered on Closed Captioned, 8 Channel Audio, tape (D5 or SR).

I understand that :30 second spots are increasing delivered digitally, as are wedding videos, but the major reason pros are crying foul on this update is the lack of features that pros use and wedding videographers do not (ie – XML, RS422, OMF, etc)

Also, I am not disparaging wedding videographers; they are also professionals and I respect entrepreneurs.

My point is… it looks like we are going back to a 2 tiered system. Broadcast on AVID.. “videos” on FCP. I think this was understood by apple, and was their intention.

I think it depends on whether or not you can produce “finished” work.

A lot of beginners work in assist type roles where they do a lot of work and move projects forward, but always relay of more experienced guys to actually bring the work to completion. $50/hr is a lot to pay an assistant. On the other hand, if your output can be billed to the client without additional touchup, you are worth much more.

What format of “broadcast”? HD progressive, HD interlaced, SD? How are you viewing your final render? Only on your computer monitor or on a broadcast monitor that properly displays your final delivery format?

Regarding your audio issue… I too find that this JVC line of cameras records very low audio relative to similar models from Canon or Sony.

Anyone else experienced this or have a workflow suggestion?

Is the external drive too full? More than 80%?

I have tested this myself, and can confirm that very large psd files will really slow down your renders. Resizing in PS first is the best way to go.

This has started happening to me as well. I have found that if you “Save” then “Close Project” then “Quit”, After Effects will quit properly without hanging up.

  • Did you have the lens image stabilizer switched on? That should be off when shooting from a tripod.

    Thanks for your reply.

But if I animate the rotation parameter of the Zaxwerks layer, the shape looses its “3D”.

You get that error message when you are one folder too deep in the directory structure. Try importing the DCIM folder to the log and transfer window rather than the folder inside that folder.

Shane Ross has a exhaustive tutorial about your situation on this site.
