thanks for that tony,
do you know how i would go about wiping the system drive?

hi mark,
thanks for your response
i never knew it was possible to capture clips through quicktime but i think it might be a hardware issue from my subsequent investigations. apparently the sony deck only supports firewire 100, 200 and 400 but imacs only have 800. there is an adaptor (400 to 800) that i can buy so hopefully that will solve the issue.
i only have fcp 6 and that doesnt work with lion.
on a separate note. i’d really like to know how i could install fcp 6 so i could access projects i have been working on all year until my motherboard gave up the ghost. all i can think of is to try and buy a second mac that doesn’t have lion installed yet.

SONY GV-HD700… that is the deck i am using, or trying to use. i bought a dv to firewire 800 cable as my iMac only has 800. i have 100’s of tapes to try and get into fcp x but no idea how…

paul,
i use a ninja to bypass the in camera compression of my nxcam. it records straight to prores(hq). they cost about $1000 australian.

michael,
the media is on a cd/dvd and is almost 5gb worth.
i’ll try running it from one of my external hard drives.
could you explain to me what a raid and an esata solution is as i only have a vague idea?
i tried to reduce the playback quality but it still didn’t work. how am i supposed to do this?
thanks

hi mike,
thanks for your reply. i was continuing my research yesterday and actually swung back towards the ex1/3 or the canon 305. my one hesitation (apart from the cost of the cards you mentioned which i hadn’t thought of) was the size of the cameras. i need something as light as possible with a hdsdi output to bypass the compression of the camera. but then these cameras don’t have as good sensors or chips (nx5) which will effect the noise after compositing even with hdsdi out. the search continues…

grinner hester,
Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera?
i know nothing about it other than what i just read after your post. it seems to have only hdmi output not hdsdi. other than that i can see the advantages in terms of lens flexibility but the expense of the lenses would be my concern.
what would you say are the pros and cons of this camera?

thanks richard,
yep, its time i upgraded my camera. from what i understand the af100 has hdsdi in and outs and you attach the hyperdeck shuttle to the camera. i don’t think it needs to be connected ‘live’ to your computer as it has its own ssd drives.
