thanks for your great response. i don’t know how i came to choosing the sigma 18-35mm for my first lens but in light of your words i think i’ll stick with it.

in terms of the Metabones Nikon G Lens to Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera with Micro 4/3 Mount Speed Booster, if i purchased this instead of the cheaper adapter does this mean my bmpcc will be compatible with canon ef lenses?

i’ve now reinstalled my os but it hasn’t made any difference. i’ll create a new user account and check to see if my disk has failed but after that i’m getting very close to purchasing premiere pro so i can actually do some work.

so i hid everything else, opened up a brand new session with an auto created event, imported some footage and as soon as i try and play it : beachball. at the time activity monitor said i had 9gb worth of free memory.

Charlie, what do you mean by console?

I have now reinstalled fcp x and still have the same issue. everything i’ve done for the last year or so cannot be used. I don’t understand how apple can get away with selling this crap. I feel like demanding my money back as well as compensation for the last year of work.

I’ll try doing what you say and disconnect all projects and events and create a new event.

If i reinstall the os will i lose my old projects and events?

i don’t have fcp legacy installed, that was on a different computer and i don’t use any third party plugins apart from event manager and 7tox.

thanks for your response. yes i deleted render files in both the projects and events. I have tried opening and playing totally unrelated projects using event manager. I would understand if It was only the project i intially removed the effects from that was beachballing but it is now every single project and event i open and there is not even an image showing up to play in the viewer.

so the transparency of the clip in the primary storyline won’t show up in the inspector at all?

i will be fading clips from and to black : like a pulse. i guess i could place a slug clip on the base track (storyline) and use the secondary storyline but that seems a lot more awkward to me. much prefer to work with tracks. looking forward to seeing what lightworks for mac is like as being an artist rather than a professional i can’t really justify paying for premiere or avid on top of fcpx.
