because the imac with fcpx has a later operating system that doesn’t support fcp 6. i heard their was a workaround in terms of installing the old os on a separate part of the harddrive but also read that that isn’t very good for the computer to do that.

i know there is some truth in what you are saying and aim to make an effort to learn fcpx in more detail as i don’t really have a choice. when my macbook pro (2006) dies (soon) i’ll have to switch to the imac/fcpx from fcp 6. still, having done quite a few tutorials on fcpx already, for me, it is nowhere near as intuitive as fcpx, which is what is most important to me.

“The timeline thing is the biggie though. To me a timeline is an open canvas where you ‘paint’. It should not be restrictive in any way at all. You decide where, when and how things go on it.”

great description. this really resonates with how i feel about fcpx.

i haven’t read anything about the nx5 and chromatic aberration and certainly haven’t noticed this. while not conducting specific tests i have taken quite a few shots on full zoom with the sky in the background. this is news to me and would appreciate any links to where you are reading this info. i should also say that i have only ever used the nx5 with the ninja so am unaware of how it performs on its own.

just a hot shoe mount. it tucks in nicely beside the camera or you can position it upwards if you want to use it for monitoring but i use the viewfinder for this. make sure you buy a hdmi cable that isnt too long as it can get in the way if you don’t have it strapped down.

i’ve done some reading about roles and i find it hard to believe they are being talked aboutas a replacement for tracks. they are an organisational tool. tracks can serve this purpose well and still do in legacy fcp versions but their main use for me is providing a visual summation of my edit and ease of editing.

i use the nx5 with a ninja through the hdmi port. techinically, the benefits are a better quality image (422), which what was my main concern and why i didn’t need to pay extra for the samurai (sdi and hdmi is the same quality image though sdi is progressive rather than psf). the pro res files are easy to edit in fcp. coming from using an fx1 my eyes light up when i see the picture quality.
