Thanks, something else I just tried was taking screenshots. The issue here is with compression and I noticed that the screenshot doesn’t match the viewer. It looks compressed. No surprise there, but what I am going to do is check to see if different screenshot compression give me a closer result to the RAW (ie TIFF)

My file was unrecoverable. I contacted this company (https://aeroquartet.com/movierepair/download) and they determined that it couldn’t be fixed. If any part of your file can be played you can use screenflow to record the audio from your computer then export as AIFF; of course you lose that RAW wave format but as a last resort at least you end up with audio that can be used.

Hi Jeremy, So the problem I guess remains and I now have another related issue:

1. shift+r, opt+r seems to replace the selected clip with the one in your event browser, not with a clip already on the timeline. I thought that if I were to

2. How do I make a specific clip stay put, no matter what?? The only way I can think of is to have it on the primary timeline and then force myself to only slide edit points (which isn’t possible)

I have two clip set as a storyline with edit points on the beat. There is no way to move anything on the primary storyline without that “connected” storyline moving as well.

I guess the solution would be to have the music in the primary storyline, but then how do I “connect” clips to eachother…compound clips don’t work for me because You are unable to uncompound them and I have to constantly make cuts associated with the music (and if the compound clip isn’t created with the music there is no reference during editing.

In a related aggrevation, why can we no longer expand compound clips within the original timeline. What does everyone else do when they need to make small changes based on anything (audio, video, graphics etc) that is not included in the original compound.

So the only way that I have found to effectively copy keyword collection from one editor to the other is to simply replace the eventfcp file. This does not seem like a good solution as it then creates a “duplicate id” situation.

Most of preediting is organizing, labeling, keywords, favoriting etc. How does FCPX not have a streamlined solution for this. Is it because they figured all the professionals jumped ship?

Thanks for the replies. Everyone has different processes and work arounds, and tricks for editing. The goal of this post is to simply find out how others are doing things. Let’s keep it friendly everyone.

What do you mean by “using modern asset buckets like Disk Images”?. I use Event Manager X but in order to save time (and not duplicate) using backup software I need to “mount” all events and projects at the end of each day to sync with my drobo. An annoying step but obviously not terrible.
