I watched both those tutorials and have a AE project that I need to render out with transparent background to insert into my FCP timeline (prores LT, 720p).

I selected RGB+alpha, millions of colors+, premultiplied (matte), the animation codec, and quicktime format.the black background still remains, not sure why everyone else on this fourm is having success and I can’t figure out how this work. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I have the 50MM 1.4, 24-70 2.8, and 16mm fisheye 2.8 (which gives you some really cool effects). I have been dissatisfied with shooting video with the 24-70, think its because of the lack of IS and that I do a ton of low light at high ISO’s (i encode in prores LT rather than pro res, anyone think that should effect the quality?)

What is the highest iso that you guys go when shooting video, my video seems very grainy compared to others that I see online and I imagine that it is because of the high ISO.

What have people found to be the best wide angle prime lens? I owned a sigma 10-20 with my nikon D90 and it gave me some great stuff, doubt that would work for video though, would rather get some super fast prime lenses.Look forward to hearing everyone’s opinions. Thanks

August 13, 2010 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Still image frame rates?

Whenever I add an image to a final cut sequence rendering time increases to the point where its out of control. Currently I am editing a 30 minute speech, 1440 by 1080, prores (proxy). I want to integrate images into the sequence and add a watermark. I can convert the image files to anything I want, but want to maintain transparency for the watermark. I have tried TIFF, PNG’s, JPEG’s etc. When I look at the frame rate for these files it is 24fps while the sequence is 30fps…is this is what is increasing the rendering times.

macbook pro, i7, 8GB RAM, 7200RPM esata external HD. Editing in ProRes LT, 720p. Everytime I have tried to use compressor it takes forever to encode. I’ll watch and tutorial and give it another shot.

Thanks, I actually already do that but like to maintain the clip lengths in case I want to change speed, add looks etc. Just seems like there might not be an optimal solution.

July 2, 2010 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Importing AVCHD footage into FCP 6

My original problem stemmed from the AVCHD footage not being in its original file structure. I was attempting to log/transfer the single video .mts files; FCP does not recognize these. I had to use toast to transcode them to .mov’s.

  • it happens on the testimonial track. I haven’t tried nesting or using a effect fade, but I really think the problem lay in the stabilize filter since when I removed that the clip acted correctly.

I am monitoring with a 22″ samsung LCD, 1680 by 1050 via DVI. It’s for the web. Would love to compress this stuff to 640 by 480 and work with the footage at that resolution (would probably allow looks to render), but FCP makes me render everything at that ratio. 720 by 480 doesn’t have the wide screen look that I want. Any advice on that end (besides getting one of those new 12 core mac pro’s coming out…can’t wait for that). Thanks for your input.

  • Looks like the problem lay in Red Giant’s Stabilize filter. I have 2.53 core 2 duo, 8GB RAM. I tried to use the magic bullet looks filter and was told that my hardware couldnt handle it. Anyone else having issues with this suite?

thanks for all the info Kevin

  • I have 8GB’s and 2.53 GHZ (new macbook pro)…currently exporting a two minute spot shot in 1080p (H264) to 720p (H264)…it is going to take an hour plus (does this sound right?)

My computer is using 80%-85% of the CPU but 3.05 GB of RAM. I am transitioning from a faster desktop PC as I have had nothing but problems and wanted to start working in final cut pro, with these speeds I’m reconsidering.

I am selling everything that I own to get a the 12 core mac pro when it drops…this is excruciating.

    Current config:
    Dell XPS 730 H2C
    Quad Core Duo QX9650
    Dual ATI 3870X2 Graphics Cards
    6 GB RAM
Dual 1 TB Harddrives (RAID O)
    Windows 7 Home Premium
