You can’t. FCP is not yet written as a 64bit app, which limits the RAM it can take advantage of. The extra RAM you put in is stll a good idea, as you wiil be able to run apps simutaneously without slowdowns, and also gives more breathing room for the OS.

Yes that is true BUT final cut pro can still use more ram then what Chris has.

Chris read this article about ram usage in FCP, but the short story is to use the full potential of FCP you need more then 4GB of ram.

Rendering and encoding is processor intensive. More ram isn’t going to help you there.

I have 8GB’s and 2.53 GHZ (new macbook pro)…currently exporting a two minute spot shot in 1080p (H264) to 720p (H264)…it is going to take an hour plus (does this sound right?)

My computer is using 80%-85% of the CPU but 3.05 GB of RAM. I am transitioning from a faster desktop PC as I have had nothing but problems and wanted to start working in final cut pro, with these speeds I’m reconsidering.

I am selling everything that I own to get a the 12 core mac pro when it drops…this is excruciating.
