  • Just out of morbid curiosity, why are you shooting in 24p normal mode? For a film, my natural instinct would be to shoot it advanced.

Maybe to stop people from using iMacs as FCP/Motion/Shake stations? From Apple’s perspective, it would probably be a shame if everyone started purchasing iMacs over Mac Pros (that is assuming, of course, that the profit margin on a Mac Pro sale is larger than that of an iMac).

I bought my white Macbook at the end of May, and it finally stopped working this weekend (on start up, I just get the question mark in the folder icon… have tried everything: reseting pram, taking out the battery to reset to factory settings, reparing using the install disk, etc.).

Will take it back to the store tomorrow, but have to say that I wasn’t too impressed by it’s 30 day lifespan. Have to say that I loved it when it worked, but based on my experience, I’m not sure if I can recommend it to others.

(And yeah, the mooing sucks, but I can live with it)

For scratch, I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. Essentially, what journaling does is help your drive survive a crash better. If nothing absolutely necessary is stored on the drive, I wouldn’t worry about it.

May 8, 2006 at 9:55 pm in reply to: MacBook Pro or Imac?

How do the Macbooks handle HD? I’m contemplating picking one up (but waiting until after the 13″ers come out)… my only hesitation is that they might not be able to deal with HD frames. I’ve never used a notebook to edit before — can anyone list pros/cons about running FCP on notebooks?

    Thanks,
    Adam

I have no idea what the answer to this question is, but due to morbid curiosity, I just have to ask: why are you using an HVX200 to shoot 480i material? Is there something about the HVX which makes it ideal for this? (I’ve never used one before). To me it sounds a bit like overkill.

You mean like rotoscoping? Dunno exactly what you’re looking for, but it sounds like a job for Shake to me.
