Oh yeah. I have also dropped the effect on a track above plain olf ordinary video. Even THAT looks like single field with the effect in place and rendered. Take the effect out and things are fine.

  • You have a couple of options. It depends on what software you have on board. Here’s my usual route to DVD.

I export a Quicktime reference file. This tiny file refers back to the original media on the media drives, and also outputs a separate audio file.

I import these into Sorenson Squeeze. Not everyone likes Squeeze, but I have great success with it. I use Squeeze to produce a DVD-complaint MPEG-2 file (and accompanying audio file).

Then I import these files into Avid DVD (originally a Sonic product). I author my menu using Photoshop and burn away.

You DO have a lot of export options in Avid. You can also custom create (and name) your own. That’s the way to go if you’ve got a client or project that will have you doing a lot of the same type of exports over and over again.

It sounds like you are having to learn the Avid while you are using it at the same time, and that is a tough hill to climb – at first. Hang in there – you’ll get used to our Avid works and “thinks” and it’ll get easier and easier. Before you know it, you’ll wonder how you cut anything before without it.

ALso, make sure you did not change your monitoring selection. Check that you are in fact monitoring the topmost track.

Select the tracks you want to collapse in-to-out. Click the collapse button; it should be on the toolbar just above the timeline.

Your three tracks will collapse into one. If you want to get to the individual tracks again, just step into the nested tracks.

Search “collapse” in the help for more information.

When in doubt, go to an Avid certified reseller and work up a system with them.

You’ll spend more, but it should work right out of the box without hassles.

If you do get any hassles, you have someone to go to you can pass the hassle off to that way!

The awful truth is: the Adrenaline is a very pretty breakout box. Not much, if any, processing happening there.

It can support the HD card, which enables DNxHD codecs. But even then, at version 2.5 (I think) of the Media Composer software, the hardware was cut loose from the software, and you could run software-only.

I highly recommend visiting the Avid web site and looking at the machine list certified by Avid, then making your hardware decisions accordingly. The Avid software is VERY particular about system configurations, especially sharing certain data busses (it does not like to share; that’s why you can’t use certain card slots in Avid systems), video cards and drivers, ancillary software like matching the version of Avid and version of Quicktime, etc.

Hope this helps some, and good luck with it!

Avid did have a version called FreeDV. Very limited. It is no longer available.

To the best of my knowledge, the closest you can get to a demo is to contact a reseller and arrange for one with them.

Thanks for clarity on that, Michael. It had been a while since I had to do that, and I obviously forgot a key part!

Try changing the name of the ALE file. For example, if you want the tape reference to be “DR142” then change the name of the ALE file to “DR142.ALE”. That may do the whole trick right there.
