September 24, 2005 at 10:23 pm in reply to: P2 HD 2/3″ CCD camera[Steve Connor] “We haven’t seen pictures from any of these cameras yet so you can only base this on theory at the moment!”
I do not have to wait Steve.
Any Thomson head will ……all over any Sony one, especially 1/2′ one.
When it comes to format like XDCAM HD,I think it is the step back.
In another 2 years people will forget about it and it will be replaced by another 5 Sony formats.Panasonic P2 is far more flexible in a long run and so is Thomson’s.
Do not underestimate Thomson, they are all about quality and high end.
In six months you will change your mind.

September 22, 2005 at 10:30 pm in reply to: P2 HD 2/3″ CCD cameraAlso quality of picture from both XDCAM and XDCAM HD is well behind true
Pana HD 720p.(and Infinity)
I can not see anybody buying expansive 1/2′ xdcam HD if Thomson is comming with its 14bit,2/3′ camera Infinity-no chance.
Sony will have to do something nonw.
Canon,JVC and Pana200 are killing the low end and from the middle there is Thomson and its vast experience in camera technology.
Personally I can see Infinity replacement for my current DVCPRO50 gear.

September 21, 2005 at 11:09 pm in reply to: P2 HD 2/3″ CCD cameraYes in 1 year or 2.
Just kidding.
I am sure they will be testing next 12 months HD P2 on upcomming Pana200.
After that they will release new Varicam and new industrial ENG HD
2/3′ camcorders on P2 as they have done with DVCPRO 50.
I just worry about Sony HD xdcam-it looks dead to me.

September 20, 2005 at 7:55 am in reply to: BT-LH1700W–It Slices, It DicesI saw it at SMPTE 2005 and do not like it.
I really do not like LCD monitors at all.
I find JVC HD monitor far better.

We had it in the lab an it is better than the other lenses I have seen on the JVC, which breathes badly and has aberrations, and the Sony which has significant aberrations.”
Please Jan,can You tell me how WIDE the lens is??

September 18, 2005 at 10:35 pm in reply to: Varicam 27H vs 27F issues[Bruce Schultz] “Sony has made a big point at not obsolescing the F900 which as an owner of one I am grateful for.”
Give them another 6 months and they will have to do it too.
There will be just too many options.
I think company like Thomson will become major player with Viper and Infinity…Sony ofcourse will do something similar….who in 2006-7 will shoot on that Beta tape..it will be all about workflow ..

September 18, 2005 at 7:17 am in reply to: Canon HDV camera records DVCPRO HD as well?[Emery] “What I dont understand is why Canon didnt go for broke on this one. They dont have any higher end gear to protect…”
Canon are making lots of money selling HD and SD and Cine lenses.
They do not want to compete with “big boys”.
Also it will be interesting to see if that Canon HD lens will have the same controls as previous Canon XL-1…speaking of lenses…I would lile to ask Jan if he has any idea how wide the lens will be on Pana 200HD camera.
