so this is a HD timeline? you said Anamorphic so you letterboxed it, so it’s a 2.35 program?

fool around with the motion render quality (fast, normal, best). also if you’re in a SD timeline, set field rendering to none.

You won’t need the Io – but you could use it as a SD converter box (SDI to composite, s-video, etc…)

The Kona card will work just fine. Plus it also does SD.

You could use FW drives for DVCPRO-HD or HDV. The throughput isn’t very high. Only when you get into uncompressed HD do you need mad speed.

Go with at least 2.5 gigs of RAM, but 4 would be great (FCP maxes at 2.5, and that’ll give you extra RAM for swapping applications).

The Nvidia card is totally fine.

huh… i’m just surmising, but it almost sounds like his Pro Tools brought in your OMF, assumed it was 24.0 and translated it down to 23.98. so it ended up getting 2 speed hits??? wierd.

personally I prefer giver the mixer a downconveted digibeta to mix to. that way he’s working at 29.97 which is a perfect speed match to 23.98. That way your mix stays in sync when you go back to HD land.

    set audio speed to 99.92%.

your pro tools guy was editing in 24.0 frames.

it’s broken. Media Manger is *junk* in 5.0. It worked better in 4.5, and it works ok in 5.1.

Any speed changed clips? Any freeze frames? Delete these and delete and titles, then try doing MM. You’ll have to copy/paste those effects back when it’s captured.

Before 5.1 came out, I’d XML my final sequence, take it into 4.5, MM it, and open that in a new 5.0 project for re-capture.

There’s something very wrong. you should be able to capture SD no problems with 1 LUN of 7 disks.

Is this an XRAID straight into a G5? No SAN, anything like that? How did you format the raid – with the xraid utility or disk ultility?

Why are you using Quicktime Conversion? What Codec are you going to? Where are you seeing this false frame rate (QT player?)

What’s checkerboarding? Chroma crawl? Are you using component or composite?
