It’s been revealed the entire problem with Media Manager was a pesky Yak. Upon deleting the Yak-code, Media Manager runs like a dream.

To be honest, it’s all over the map out here. What kind of work is probably the 1st question. At what level? National run commercials, indie feature films, music videos? You could be anywhere from $200 a day to $1600 a day depending.
I’ve seen assistant editors for commercials (high end) quote from $200 to $450. And honestly most of those kids don’t know their sh*t very well.

Well, if nothing else, the giant crap-mess that are American television standards and formats keeps us engineer minded geeks in business.
Bob is right. It was a golden era, a chance to make clean, simple standards. But it only became exponentially more complicated.

It would be freaking useful to have a BUILT IN cadence detection and frame rate conforming tool in FCP.
It’s not a terrible pain to go to After Effects clip by clip on a :30 second spot. But when you’re online editing a 3-30 minute piece from Digibeta it becomes impractical.

another advantage of lcd/plasma… you don’t get that annoying field flicker from 23.98 on the CRT.

I too am interested in what others might be doing. Spyder probe or the Eyeon? We eyeball our Panny Plasmas and LCD’s to a handful of calibrated Sony CRT’s. It’s not my favorite way to go about it…. I find they all tend to have a greenish cast that needs to be dialed down.
I have to say, though, feeding SDI straight into the Panny Plasma (component analog as well) – the blacks are pretty decent. I used to use a HDlink with the Apple Cinema, I had to fiddle to get good blacks detail too…. Wonder if it’s a HDlink problem?
I now feed an Eizo Coloredge LCD with the AJA HDP conveter (much like the HDLink) – it was within 5% of my CRT right out of the box.

I’d imagine we’ll see Adobe put out CS3 – Leopard in January along with the release of 10.5.2…
but really, I haven’t seen anything in Leopard on my home computer that was a must have for my workstations. I’ll be patient.

It really has been tough. I remember trying to set up multiple computer clusters back in Compressor 2 with our G5’s…. ended up more complicated than I was willing to deal with.
What my head editor keeps asking me is when will FCP have built in cluster support? So that 30 min render of effects on that HD timeline takes 5 minutes and 3 or 4 Xserves….
