Apple presenting “secret” at Final Cut meet

When a collection of Final Cut Pro user groups assemble to hold a meeting at Macworld San Francisco later this month, Apple will have a surprise presentation for its guests, AppleInsider has learned.
The January 16th gathering, which follows a day after Apple chief Steve Jobs’ Macworld keynote, will feature “something super secret” from the Mac maker, according to the announcement.
Despite the nature of the group, the Apple unveiling is unlikely to include an update to the Final Cut Studio video production suite, which was updated in April and has rarely been updated during the San Francisco show in the past.
Historically, Apple has at times used professional audiovisual industry gatherings to discuss its high-end computers, including the MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, and Xserve.

It’s been revealed the entire problem with Media Manager was a pesky Yak. Upon deleting the Yak-code, Media Manager runs like a dream.

“American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu cites sources who say that Apple will start shipping some of their computers with Blu-ray support as early as Macworld.
Appleinsider also corroborates the report with their own sources, expecting an overhaul to the Mac Pro in the 1st quarter of 2008 with Blu-ray support.
Mac Pro updates have been long overdue with the last major update almost 17 months ago. While some rumors have pegged the Mac Pro update at Macworld, there has been only minimal buzz about it in the final weeks before the expo.”

It only is a matter of time before they put a next generation optical drive in their computers… now seems to be as good as time as any. They’re already readily available on the secondary market. So, why not? If this turns out to not be true I won’t be losing any sleep over it. In fact, I’d almost rather they not update the Mac Pro as I just bought one last month. :]

What’s the news on Son-of-Shake? Isn’t that supposed to ship 2008… -
I’m with Winston on this, Mac users desperately need BluRay authoring in the tradition that DSP has been for sd for the past 5-6 years. The time is OVER-RIPE for a decent reasonably priced app to author HD to BluRay. Something between Sonic Scenarist HD or Sony’s BluPrint and Adobe’s Encore HD. We need DSP 5-HD NOW! When we can all author feature rich HD content in 5 up; 10 up; 50 up or 200 up quantities in our own studios the price of blank discs will plummet and the public will embrace the format with the added inspiration of local content. Many folks I talk to have an HD monitor but few have an HD-DVD or BluRay player. Many of them don’t even subscribe to HD content so view sd on their sets. The bulk of my finished product in the last 5 years has been DVD for local corporate and live event work. It should be mostly hi def NOW.

Just my own 2 cents. Our first Blu-Ray job paid for the BluRay Burner, Adobe Encore and my Blu-Ray player. Our second Blu-Ray job paid for the Blu-Ray Replicator and our DVD Printer. We’re now doing our 4th Blu-Ray project.
If you “NEED” it now, then buy it now. Don’t complain that Apple isn’t servicing your needs when a solution is available. Yes Blu Ray is expensive and we charge appropriately so the cost of the discs, the replicators and everything associated with it do not overwhelm our budgets.
Sure I would like to see Apple support BluRay since Compressor already does, but I would never let Apple affect my business decisions. Again, my 2 cents.
