Thanks Martin, that’s exactly what I thought.
Luckily FCP is such a fast editor that hand conforming cutdowns isn’t very hard

Sorry for the fuzion:
1)Onlining a music video in HD. Editor sends me his project file over email.
2) MM and make a project with 1sec handles
3) Batch conform clips from HDCAM-SR
4) Several days later they create :60 and :90 cutdowns
5) editor emails sends me new project file
6) MM the 60 and 90 timelines
7) FCP doesn’t seem to have any way to cross reference the clips from the 4 minute timeline with these new 60 and 90’s. What what “reel2 1” from my original capture isn’t the same clip as “reel2 1” from these new timelines. Follow? Since FCP names clips based on the original clip name plus ascending numbers.
Also FCP seems to reconnect clips based on duration IN from the start of a QT file. Not the actual timecode. [I may be completely wrong on this point, but this is what i seem to observe]. And since my cutdowns have shorter clips, when I point FCP to reconnect to a QT it comes up what “media duration, IN/OUT are different, Continue?” And it puts the clip in at the wrong point.
If I’m completely off my rocker and there’s a way to do this, I would pay you in a lifetime of donuts.

The problem arises when you have hundreds of clips. It become a hunt and peck match, leaving a lot of room for human mistake.

It’s not the fastest I’ll give you that.
You CAN save a favorite color correction setup by dragging the little “hand w/a clip” icon over into your bins. Have 8 of those and drag them onto clips as you go.
as far as keyboard – I don’t think so.

the original capture was from a CMX EDL. Not a MMed project. would this cause probs?

Well the file names don’t match. That is, in the 3 minute piece you have “ree12 1” “reel2 2” “reel2 3” clip names. So a unique name from each clip.
But in the :60 cutdown maybe we only use the second shot, but it gets named “reel2 1” by FCP, since it’s the first reel2 shot in the cut.

How many fonts do you have active? Cull them down in font book to a hundred or so that you always need, should speed Boris up

Well the skinny is yes, FCP doesn’t know what to do with interlace. It’s always a mess. And it doesn’t know what to do with 480 vs 486 either.
Now are you actually loading these DVD’s progressive? Like 30p? Or are they 29.97 with 3:2 pulldown?

Typically when I see 00 timecode, it means it came from a rendered Quicktime file, not a tape.

oh yes. FCP 6 has MASSIVE problems in that area. No known workarounds for me… I just try to avoid it.
