there’s a menu item in the 1500 for DVCAM/DV recording format. Hook it up to a TV with the Super out and it should be easy enough to find.

A/B = export the quicktime. then IMPORT it back INTO final cut. Do you see a gamma shift compared to your original timeline?
What codec are you exporting to?
You’re using Encore? I’ve never used it, maybe there’s a gamma switch in there that needs to be dealt with? Some programs have a problem assuming that all QT is 1.8 gamma

1) are you watching all your video on a proper monitor (i.e. not the computer displays)
2) once you’ve exported a movie, can you bring it back into FCP and see the gamma shift in an A/B comparison?

This all is a really good discussion.
Apple apparently wants to be serious about professional video products. All their video products use QT as a backbone. They SHOULD start a ProApp version of QT (which will simple be, say QT 7.3) that is highly compatible with video applications.
IF you have FCP Studio on your system, software update sees this and only provides options for ProApp version of QT (say 7.5).
7.4 has created SO MUCH havoc. More than a lot of previous updates it seems. All in the name of iTunes. Great – there’s the piggy bank, but “all users of QT 7” we are not

It becomes our duty as editors to give the evil eye to ALL Apple updates. And hope the other people in your office don’t blindly download every software update (which they do… and then it ruins everything)
FCP is increasingly an Avid like installation – there’s a specific series of drivers and versions that the software runs well on. Everything else is a crapshoot.

Always keep the same ver of FCP – otherwise it won’t share projects.
Leopard runs FCP ok on my personal laptop. I wouldn’t sweat installing Tiger on it.

Well obviously you’re not working with naturally progressive video, so it takes some computer magic to “fake” a progressive image.
FCP doesn’t really have a decent option to do this out of the box, but Compressor has some decent de-interlacing options available. I can’t be much help honestly, I don’t deal much with interlace formats going progressive except postings to the web (in which case I use compressor with a de-interlace option turned on)

Well what is your source? Sounds like 30fps video?
