Ah. Well as long as the BNC patch bay has 75ohm connectors, you should be ok. (you can tell by looking into the connector, if it has the white shield that surrounds the copper bit in the middle, it’s 50ohm).
everytime you make a patch, you lose some signal level and other nasties. But 4-6 patches should be just fine. I actually have a similar setup in one of our bay’s and it’s fine for HD. Bob could give you a much better technical response, this is just stuff I’ve picked up as the informal engineer at my studio, so it comes with a small grain of salt.

Try this: line your audio up at the front of the clip. Then do a speed effect on your audio (99.90%)
it’s because your video is running at 23.98, but your audio is running at 24.0 (essentially)

I think you might have BNC and “weco” connectors confused (the long tube things that you use on patch bays). ??
There are certainly BNC connectors and cabling that are HD rated. BNC hasn’t changed form factor, just specs and tolerances. The old 50ohm BNC can’t handle HD… but most 75ohm cables I’ve ever come across handle 1080 4:2:2 just fine.
What kind of things are you trying to patch together?

You can patch HD with a patch bay – but you really need to be using HD rated components (both the patch bay and the patch cables).

Somewhere in the HDCAM deck are some options for downconversion. I think they have a “soft” “regular” and “crisp” sort of option…. never used it though. Might be worth a gander?

They’re probably high contrast/primary color graphics? Just a slight 1 pixelish kinda ringing edge? Then yep – we’ve confirmed you’re seeing artifacts from the Kona downconvert.

at the very least USE THE SCOPE in Final Cut! I’ve found it to be completely accurate against my hardware scopes so far – so much so that I took the hardware scopes out of my bay and are using them elsewhere. But you can never get away without using a scope if you’re going to broadcast.

The quick answer: you need to get a mixer. You can get some totally decent ones cheap.

Sure. Most any Avid can read in standard Quicktime files (it’ll convert it to Avid’s proprietary codec)
