It’s not the graphics cards, it’s the actual quicktime renders from After Effects. The same project file produces difference results on two almost identical machines. Basically it makes any laptop based render invalid…. which is highly frustrating.

I’ll match up system specs perfectly and try some more tests. It sucks because these Quicktime gamma problems were a huge issue about 2 years ago…and I thought we had beaten them.

I just looked up specs: the 5500 specifically states it CAN record HDCAM. The 5800 only says it can PLAY BACK HDCAM.

oooof, it should be right there in that menu. Right where F5 would be, lower left corner.

the only caveat is I’ve only done it on the 5500, not the 5800. But I’d imagine that’s not the problem.

In the System Menu, where you can switch the deck between Progressive, 1080, 720, etc….. There’s a tab for “REC FORMAT”

    set that to HDCAM

if it actually has the board installed.

Is you deck control set to Sony 422 23.98? Also I tend to set my preroll to at least 6 seconds.

Have you confirmed deck is getting External HD for ref, and AJA is using external HD for ref?

Sometimes I’ve found removing your sync generator and putting the deck in Input Video Ref solves a lot of problems when time is critical.

  • just make your 29.97 EDL out of FCP. Open Cinema Tools. There’s a menu option to translate a 30fps EDL to 24fps. Presto

In the “keyframe interpolation” pop up menu Spacial Interpolation was set to “continous bezier.” Setting it to “Linear” makes keyframes behave as expected.

Good idea Dave. Keyframe 2 is Easy IN. So there’s no handle on the right side.

Also, I can make all keyframe LINEAR and I get the same bump.

What I’m now noticing in my experiements: it only seems to happen with big moves. Like a Z move where text flies in from overhead really big, and then lands, then drifts slowly along Z

Ah ha. The timecode track and the burn in don’t match on the source tape. They’re a frame off.

    nothing like grade A dailies

  • 1) reboot system.
    2) if that doesn’t clear it up, delete your user prefs

My Kona 3 would do that from time to time – especially if I was plugging in different references from what the input/output video was set to
