You need to cull down the project: it’s getting too big and FCP doesn’t purge it’s memory well.
Make a new Save As from where you are. Then open that new project and delete all your old edits and things you don’t need. It should speed things up.

Sorry, but mp4’s are a delivery codec: massively compressed so they can be transmitted with a lower bandwidth. They also are very processor intensive – lots of number crunching to turn that data back into viable video.
Any real-time editing codec is going to be MUCH larger than an mp4. DV is pretty much the smallest codec that really gets used anymore. Luckily hard drives are really inexpensive these days.

You’ll need to mask her out and do a separate correction. And it’s not just 1 strong color – there’s 2. A very blue backlight and a purplish key light.
time to learn Color. do a secondary (with vignette) that desaturates that crazy blue. then do another secondary that pushes the hue curve for that purple towards skintone.

JPEG is a variable rate codec…. so much that FCP doesn’t really know how much space will be used per minute of footage and gives you a poor calculation.
as I recall this has been an issue with PhotoJPEG for years…

hmmm….. interesting.
So you have a huge timeline that needs rendering…. you set the 1st instance of FCP to render the front, set the 2nd instance to render the back end? And then “reconnect media” to the render files to get it all back together?
we did something like this when we were working in 1080 for a feature film on G5’s…. three FCP stations rendering and reconnecting the render files.

1st: the whole “cuts need to be on an A frame” is completely bogus! don’t do something rash like that!
Is the 10 bit footage an already cut movie? Are you taking clips from something that’s been assembled before and putting them into your new movie? Or is it dailies from a roll of 35/16mm?
Are you cutting on a 10bit timeline or DV?
Do you have a TV monitor that you’re working with, or just looking at the computer screen while editing?

You laid off a tape to get color corrected? Or someone else is re-conforming the project at high res for you?
My first instinct is the post house you went to is doing something wrong or not communicating with you well about the issue.
Unless something went completely haywire with your video dailies, I really really doubt you have to “re-edit.”
The “A” frame is simply the first frame of a 5 frame sequence that turns 24fps film into 30fps video.
