On tape all channels are “mono.” It’s when you play back the tape, or digitize the tape, you need to specify to the RECEIVING machine how to route the mono files. For instance channel 7 on your SR tape will be “mono” but it ONLY contains the audio data for the LEFT channel – once you bring it back into FCP you simply need to click in channel 7 in the timeline and then PAN it back to the left. Same with channel 8 and Right.

try this: open the clip in cinema tools. press the conform button. select 29.97. restart FCP and see if that fixes your exports

In FCP -> Modify -> timecode.

File -> Set Loggin Bin. Even with multiple projects open, the logging bin can only exist in one tab. So it’s probably on the wrong project sometimes.

Well sure, if you have 2 projects open FCP is going to digitze footage to whatever project is currently in front.
Be mindful of which tab you’re on or only open the appropriate project while digitizing.

what is your device control set to? Try AJA Kona 23.98 Sony VTR A. you are probably on 29.97i.
BTW, there’s not such things as a Mac G5 with Intel Processors.

try trashing prefs first.
your media is probably fine. i used to get the green screen in FCP 5.1 often.

Cant’ speak for that deck specifically, though I had the exact same problem with an SRW-5500 the other week. I had the format converter set to a 59.94 frame rate and the deck control was slaving to that, even though the base system rate was 28.98

Blackmagic makes a good product. We personally switched to all AJA products a couple years back – BM wasn’t as “on it” with driver stability and they simply had too many models of cards. However I think the consensus is they’re very solid now.
Now the Kona 3 has been out for how many years? And it’s still the king of the hill. Bar none.
