  • Importing footage goes into another open project (sometimes)

This may be a newbie question, but we’ve been filming a lot lately (almost 1TB so far) and after each session we rip 3 cameras worth of footage from our P2 cards. Trouble is, we have 2 distinct projects that need to stay separate. We will switch the System Prefs to rip the first session’s footage, and most of the time it works great. But sometimes, even if we have Project A’s tab selected before we choose Log and Transfer, it will ingest that footage into Project B. It’s only 5-10% of the time, so it’s easily fixed, but we’d like to know why FCP is doing it in the first place.

Is there a step we’re missing to make sure Project A’s footage gets ingested into Project A, and not randomly into Project B?

Well sure, if you have 2 projects open FCP is going to digitze footage to whatever project is currently in front.

Be mindful of which tab you’re on or only open the appropriate project while digitizing.

Ahh, but that is at the center of my question: even with Project A’s tab in front, 5-10% of the time it threw them into Project B. I’ve had this happen on 2 computers.

Our workaround is to only have one project open at a time. But we figured as long as the project we wanted video ingested into was in front, we were good to go.

File -> Set Loggin Bin. Even with multiple projects open, the logging bin can only exist in one tab. So it’s probably on the wrong project sometimes.
