  • Won’t take TC #’s when capturing 1080I 23.98, Advice ?

When tring to capture 1080I 23.98 footage and I manualy type time code numbers when I hit enter the TC numbers jump to something else.
When I manualy type number “A” it jumps to the same odd number when I type number “B” to jumps the a unrelated number but the same unrelated to the “A” number every time.

When I chose the input time code by parking the tape on the time code I want and hit enter it takes the correct number.

    I am using a
    AJA Kona 3 card,
    Sony HDCAM HDW-F500,
    Mac G5 with Intel processors
FCP 6.0.6 with capture set to “AJA Kona 3 1080psf 23.98 10 bit uncompressed”

One thing I have tried to find is the FCP setting to change the input referance to external sync when I launch FCP it sets the Kona card sync to SDI 1 input sync could be a issue I’m not sure if it is a red herring or not.

No problem with time code when capturing 1080I 59.94

    Thanks
    John

what is your device control set to? Try AJA Kona 23.98 Sony VTR A. you are probably on 29.97i.

BTW, there’s not such things as a Mac G5 with Intel Processors.

Deck control is not the issue. I have deck control. Every function works with the exception of being able to type in a timecode value when using a 1920:1080 23.98psf setting.

    Me too.

    Ever fix it?

No, never fixed it. I have donkey workarounds. Basically, with edit to tape window open, scrub until your blacked tape is where you want it. In my case generally 00:58:30:00. That allows for my minute of bars and 30 secs black, program starting at hour 1. Usually, FCP’s timecode will be a few seconds/frames off.
Just use the “mark in” button in the edit to tape window. Drag your sequence into assemble edit and there ya go!
The other option is to just crash record.

    Hope that helps.
