But you CAN’T hear it in the Edit to Tape window. So if you want to make a quick buzz through and confirm audio went down…. you can’t. Little things that used to work…they don’t anymore.

“Add Handles” dialog won’t let me input a number. what’s that?

You can no longer hear audio on tape in the Edit to Tape window.

    it’s the little things.

but I’ve had success in opening 4.5 projects at 10bit and DVCPRO50 resolutions.

I am REALLY excited that I can import a flex file directly in and have FCP do the entire Cinema Tools Dumbbase for me. That was always such an annoying pain. And BIN TEXT sizes!!!!! Now if that would just apply to the REST OF THE FREAKING TEXT like timecode overlays and tabs. Some of our guys switch their monitors to 800×600 just so they can edit without hunching over all day.

That only proves my point. Why should I have to install MS Explorer to get Title 3D to work? Regardless, I have Ariel Black in system.

I’m talking about my earlier problem with FCP not recognizing AIFF files from the mix house (even though QT will play them back. ITunes. Etc…), crashing when you scrub, crashing when you copy and paste clips, media popping to another frame when you press the “In” key. I know that on some of our systems the problem lies with the Beta drivers from AJA for their IO. And there are ceratinly problems running on Tiger and not 10.3.9. I’m loving some of the new features, but I certainly won’t let any of our editors do a paying job on FCP 5.0 until there are some bug fixes. Would you?

They’re 48K, 16 bit, stereo. When I export them from QT (or Compressor) I use the same: 48K 16bit. It’s like there’s a flag in the file that Final Cut isn’t seeing, like “hello, this is an aiff file.”

    Dual G5 2.7
    10.4.1
    QT 7.0.1
    FCP 5.0

hm…. got it. I had to go into the A/V settings while the Log&Capture window was OFF, go into my Blackmagic 10/8/DV/etc.. settings and manually switch them to NONE, then back to Decklink.

Now… it records audio but you can’t hear it while digitizing. This used to be under advanced Audio options/Speaker. But now????

  • some of your problems sound familiar back in the day, what exact versions of software, drivers, quicktime, etc… are you using? Was it configured for you? Realtime, yes unfortunately, only refers to the native video format you are wokring in and any effects in the Effects tab that are in bold. No animation codec+alpha or anything like that. But yes, you CAN play back 8 streams of Uncompressed 10 bit at once (like an 8part picture in picture, with them spinning around, and maybe some color correction). …I know that the XRAID has been very buggy for people, I’d look around in the Blackmagic forum because they’ve seemed to found the specific working setup.

On your audio sync, are you listening to audio out of the Blackmagic SPDIF? We have a KONA card (same drivers as Blackmagic) and sound is ALWAYS out of sync on the monitor when you’re digitizing. But it will be in perfect sync once it’s digitzed. BTW, I don’t count this as a huge problem as our $250,000 Flame does the same thing.

The save problem is typically something I see if the project has been left open overnight/the CPU has fallen asleep/or you’re saving to a network drive that goes offline (even when you bring it back up, FCP doesn’t like to save). I keep a desktop folder for my project files.

Your guess on rounding errors sounds very likely to me. Luckily there were only 100 clips that I had to go through and slip. Honestly the whole 30fps TC on tape for 23.98 media had me scratching my head for a bit there.

  • on this I totally agree. AVID got their crap together with getting into and out of the box – that is, going into online, getting a negative cut, etc…. Final Cut has been HORRIBLE in these regards. EDL’s with speed changes were never right, even it’s own XML didn’t work half the time, and a negative list with keycode? Cinema Tools just didn’t cut it. But Apple is getting better on this front – quickly.

They HAVE fixed that damn gamma conversion problem. That was the most irritating thing I’ve ever seen in a “pro” app.
