nothing wrong with that… but i would ask if this is a feature project are you planning on ever doing a uncompressed HD conform? it might be worthwhile to render After Effects at 10-bit uncompressed HD… when you drop them into FCP it’ll render down to DV-100, but at least when judgment days comes all your animations are finished.

No, it’s a big Textronix multiple sync generator – same on they’ve had in the facility for over 10 years. The only reason I wonder if the card is having problems is that all the other gear in house is fine, and the SD card I had in before locked to that sync no problems.

Yup. Everything’s done right on a wiring standpont. that’s why I’m scratching my head.

easy: export and EDL from Avid (like a CMX3600) and “Import EDL” in FCP.

yeah, personally I’d never 100% trust our color correction abilities without a true HD tube… At the end of the day, I’d still take a D5 to a telecine house for a tape-to-tape.

That’s what we’re doing. According to BM the downconversion has 10 bit color precision. So you can use your NTSC BVM or whatever to get your color nailed down.

Edit NTSC DV in and “uncompressed 8 bit” timeline? try moving your text 1 pixel up or down – FCP sometimes fouls things up like that.

Put 4.5 on a laptop, or some client iMac. that’s what we did. It’s a pain in the ass.

Yeah, i know it’ll never be critical for color… thought it does look awfully sweet in 1080p.
But I’ve got a pair of Sony 18″ LCD’s on my system which have a 6500K setting and they look alright against my BVM… The HDlink + Apple Cinema looks very cool in comparison. I guess I could switch everything over to daylight temps…. but that doesn’t seem like the best answer. If anyone had a LUT for the HDlink that warmed up the color temp a little, that’d be awesome to share!

You’re using FCP 5, right? Media Manager is BROKEN! It almost always screws up your “delete unused media.”
Two options: export and EDL and batch digitize that. or export and XML, import it in FCP 4.5, and use that Media Manager to create an offline project that deletes unused media correctly. I’ve heard all these theories of how to make it work in 5 (making independant clips, etc…) but only the two options above have ever worked reliably.
I’m surpirsed FCP 5 has been out as long as it has and Apple hasn’t addressed this problem. it’s an arsing pain,
