I found this work flow on the net.

with a decklink HD Pro use the HDLink to monitor HD signals for focus and detail on a 23 inch cinema display and use a standard definition studio monitor to judge critical color.

” use a standard definition studio monitor to judge critical color.”
question : after judging then can you do color correction on HD based on the standard definition signal ?

    Thanks
    Ron

That’s what we’re doing. According to BM the downconversion has 10 bit color precision. So you can use your NTSC BVM or whatever to get your color nailed down.

I agree with you completely. it would be VERY close imo.

But there are those that would disagree because the NTSC monitors
operate in a different color space than HD. I’ve heard the phosphors
in the tube are different as well.

perhaps somebody with real world experience in both could comment.

I do color grading on my sony lcd at home, but I have it calibrated
(by my eye) The interesting thing is, what I see on my LCD is what
I see on my television when doing DVD previews. So its “good enough”
    for me.

yeah, personally I’d never 100% trust our color correction abilities without a true HD tube… At the end of the day, I’d still take a D5 to a telecine house for a tape-to-tape.
