    Hi,

I’ve been trying to online two sequences in HD. After editing I have a lot of unused media – ie: I have clips in my timeline that use 3 seconds out of a 2 minute clip/media file. So I used the media manager to create new sequences, making sure that the “Delete unused media from duplicated sequence item.” was turned on. My sequences are both about 6 minutes long, but even after following the steps to reduce the media down to just the sequence clip edits, plus handles… My batch digitize window is still telling me that I have over an hour of material to digitize???

    Is there something I missed?

    Thank you.

    Kai

You’re using FCP 5, right? Media Manager is BROKEN! It almost always screws up your “delete unused media.”

Two options: export and EDL and batch digitize that. or export and XML, import it in FCP 4.5, and use that Media Manager to create an offline project that deletes unused media correctly. I’ve heard all these theories of how to make it work in 5 (making independant clips, etc…) but only the two options above have ever worked reliably.

I’m surpirsed FCP 5 has been out as long as it has and Apple hasn’t addressed this problem. it’s an arsing pain,

    seriously…

that’s not a good thing to hear. i have 20 videos to online in the next month..

    any other ideas?

i don’t have 4.5 installed any more, and i am going to have to revert a bunch of drivers and software if I’m going to go back and do that..

    thanks.

Put 4.5 on a laptop, or some client iMac. that’s what we did. It’s a pain in the ass.

Have you tried editing your final sequences into one sequence and then putting this sequence into a new project? FCP will then make the clips independent. Tell media manager to create a new project, this (3rd) project will be your final one with trimmed clips.
I had lots of trouble with onlining in fcp, but if you use these steps, it should work on fcp5.0.4.
    Hope this helps
