Thanks for the great advice! Was able to work it out after following those suggestions and also trashing the prefs.

    Much Appreciated-

To clarify, I mean I am able to capture and control regular DV (NTSC) tapes with the deck, so the connection works. When I use the HDV material I change all settings I can find in the deck to make sure I’m sending the right signal (as HDV etc).

The problem is, the deck doesn’t seem to be recognized when I switch over to the HDV easy setup is all.

I’ve also tried setting up an internal downconvert through the deck (just to try to capture some material with my DV-anamorphic Easy setup) and while I am able to view, control, log footage, I’m having many errors on import, dropped frames, etc.

Wondering if it’s a problem with my version of FCP (6.0) or maybe an old FCP preferences problem? There may be some other menu I’m not handling correctly on the deck, but I think I’ve set it up properly.

Anybody else ever have these problems with these configurations?

    Thanks-

right, so a shot might be at 67% speed, or 180% speed, etc. THis seems to be the common link between the problem shots indeed.

    Thanks

As an addendum I’m getting a mysterious white box (no text visible) and Avid hang / crash when it happens. Maybe this is related to the QT issue?

    Thanks,

    Aaron

    Version 7.5.5 (249.13).

I take it that could be a problem? I’m still resisting upgrading to leopard (worried the Xpress Pro 4.6 magic would end there).

should I try going back to an earlier version of QT?

    Thanks,

    IMPORTANT!

I just found an upgrade for the sentinel dongle driver that has AVID working perfectly again. This is the link:

and I was about to pull a nasty Erase and Install.

very helpful indeed- your comments put forward what i had been trying to articulate and what you say about the difficulty in addressing these matters is true-

i had essentially written it off as a learning experience but your comments helped me with what to do, not just what not to do-

    Thanks a million-
