Well Mitch, if you’ve seen the great videos on the EX cameras from Vortex Media, their Doug Jensen does his clip naming from the camera. He explains in great detail how he avoids any risk of duplicating clip ID’s but they are file numbers. I dislike using file numbers and prefer to re name clips once they are imported (Media 100 in my case). However, if you are going to use computers to identify and find clips then file numbers will work even better than names. Presumably the PMW 200 has a file naming process similar to that of the EX’s.

Sorry Eric, I forgot about the difference with European lighting. As Don says, God’s light is rate agnostic!

If your footage is purely for use in North America why would you choose to shoot it in PAL? Most professional cameras today will shoot both PAL and NTSC.

I don’t know which version of Transfer you have. I have the first one and I’ve kept it rather than upgrade to the more versatile but complicated Browser. All I want to do is import media from my S x S cards shot on the EX 1. This always worked perfectly until I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion. Following which I have to fiddle about rather more (ignoring an ominous warning) but do still manage to get the media in to Media 100.

Your screen shot seems to indicate the absence of a driver, have you managed in the past to import the media with exactly the same set up as you have now? If so that a puzzle. You could post Ian Cook of Sony on the ex forum.

I was on 2.1 and have done the upgrade as I was in between projects but quite honestly don’t find any difference. I generally limit upgrades to when there is an obvious reason. I think that there comes a time when it’s clearly wise to keep up, say after at least two version changes but you seem perfectly OK at present. It really depends on circumstance obviously but I’d leave well alone.

I was always told that we need to consider how much space we have available for the audio and have always set my audio for 256, although a lot of encoders automatically encode at 196. My audio settings give really nice sounding audio and I never have problems with the playing of my DVD’s.

May 17, 2013 at 9:45 am in reply to: Integrate Media 100 with Boris Red

In my experience there is no better editing tool than Media 100 and I’m amazed that this is not more widely accepted. The damage was done in the period of Optibase’s ownership but Boris should now take the opportunity of a big publicity effort. Why does he not do this?

The people who need to carry out a lot of fancy overlaying of graphics may find Media 100 a bit limiting but for straight forward editing in the time honoured tradition of film making there is nothing to beat it. Easy to use, fast, reliable, intuitive – you name it, it has it all. You can even work in 4K with Media 100 if you’re lucky enough to need it.

I wouldn’t worry too much about Picture Profiles but I would worry about correct exposure.

Use the Zebra facility on the camera and you’ll soon see where the over exposure is. You will need to over expose the snow to some degree if the people are not to be under exposed but the zebra is a tremendously useful guide.

Can you not use the SDI out to view in HD? Or is it only an SD picture that you want?
