Mike, I am certainly not laughing. My G3 with version 7.03 was the most stable and easy to use set up I ever had.

I was lucky enough to get a proper printed manual for version 10.0.3 which is every bit as good as the manuals that always came with Media 100 in the good old days. However any further help and information is always welcome and whils I agree with the others who would like more tutorials a DVD right now would be nice. Most people can either play a DVD on a second computer or portable DVD player so there would be no problem in looking and doing at the same time. As far as I am concerned – yes please.

I shoot on HDV and edit in HD BUT you won’t get your HDV signal directly into Media !00. HDV is not true HD and you have to convert your signal. The only way to do this is through one of the special converters made by Miranda or Convergent Design. I use the HD-Connect by Convergent Design and it works perfectly. I go firewire from the HVR-M10 deck and then SDI (in HD) from the converter and edit in 8 bit uncompressed. You can’t go in reverse from the box so you have to master from Media 100 either to HDCAM or SD through SDI only, no firewire out yet from Media 100 HD.
For monitoring I still use my Sony PVM 14M, S Video from the deck, component from Media 100, and although the pictures are great they are not HD, therefore not necessarily accurate.
The conversion to DV from the Sony deck gives good pictures too but there is no way to get them into Media 100 HD because the component out is only for HDV and as I said there is no firewire to Media 100 HD. You are trying to put HDV down your component to Media 100 and it won’t go!!

Michael C, this might be the blind leading the blind here but I do remember seeing a chart somewhere and there was a big difference in drive requirements between 8 and 10 bit uncompressed. I read in the Media 100 HD manual (page 2-15) that a 10 bit image carries 4 times more data per channel than an 8 bit image so it all depends on whether your system can handle it.

I exported 29 minutes of 8 bit uncompressed HD to a LaCie firewire drive and it took up 167 of the available 250 Gigs. Took two hours to do it!

An update on my problem, thanks for the suggestions fellows. I wanted to keep the quality as uncompressed HD because this is really for archiving although I would like to get tape copies in addition to the SD DVD’s taken off (through BitVice).
I have had no luck so far with any production house able to take HDCAM off my drive. They either don’t have Media 100 or an HDCAM deck – these seem very thin on the ground in England! I am making progress with once more renting one but as explained earlier I wanted to save the hassle and risk of further hernias!

Must be a bug only on this version, never have it on 10.1.3

I sometimes have sync problems when mastering HD (but in SD) to my DSR 20 DVCAM through the composite connection. I am only doing this so I can project a rough cut in a big picture to judge the film subjectively prior to mastering in HD but it is puzzling. This does not happen on every occasion though.

I use the Convergent Design HD-Connect to digitize into Media 100 HD and I edit in 8bit uncompressed. Yes, it does need a lot of storage drives!
